As much as we want our dogs to just be dogs, it is essential that we keep our dogs coats in good healthy condition. How do we do this?
- Health and Diet
- Up-to-date vaccinations
- Good bedding and sleeping
- Cleaning and Grooming every 4-6 weeks
Firstly a good diet with all the essential proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals and given plenty of clean water to drink will give your dog the requirements needed for a healthy body.
Secondly ensuring your dog is always up-to-date with his/her vaccinations and wormed
Third that your dog’s bedding and sleeping arrangements are kept clean and comfortable.
Lastly it means washing your dog at least once every 4-6 weeks and certainly for curly haired dogs having their hair clipped regularly to prevent permanent matting of their hair which can cause discomfort, moulding with the trapping of water and possible irritable skin conditions.
Puppies need to be introduced to grooming at a very young age after their last puppy vaccination so around the 10-12 week mark. Why? so that they will not be frighted of hairdryers, brushes, clippers and water spouts. We will introduce your puppy in stages until he/she is comfortable being groomed.
We have altered our taps to be gentle to the dogs that we groom. When water comes out it is at a warm temperature that we have controlled and water does not shoot out of a tube as you so often find rather it comes out of a shower rose specially chosen so the water comes out as it would when we have a shower – soft on the skin and to a warm temperature.
Lillys Doggy Day Care provides grooming services for your dog from a basic wash to a full beauty wash and clip.
